Dirt Attackers is a simple game in the vein of Space Invaders that was written using the Flixel library. It was written for the Bflex conference to introduce Flex users to Flixel.
The BFlex 2009 presentation slides give an overview of Flixel and Dirt Attackers. There’s also a handout with some useful information.
To follow the presentation, you’ll need Flixel 1.25 and the Dirt Attackers art. And Adobe Flex, of course.
The presentation won’t lead you through the entire process, so you may want to look at the source code. It’s well-commented, although it isn’t organized by difficulty (for example, the emitter in MenuState is one of the last things we add during the presentation).
Dirt Attackers and the art are available under an MIT license (much like Flixel itself), but if you do something cool with it, please let us know at will@studiocypher.com!
